Michael W. Gramm

January 1952 – August 2025

Michael Wayne Gramm, 73, passed away on August 19th, 2025. He was born on January 4th, 1952, in Missoula, MT, to Marvin and Edith Gramm.

Michael grew up in Missoula and graduated from Sentinel High School. After a stint studying drafting and engineering at Montana State University in Bozeman, he returned home and joined his dad in the family construction business. He continued in construction for the rest of his career until a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis led him to retire early.

Michael’s passion for speed and competition shaped his earlier years. He was an avid snow skier, water skier, and snowmobiler before channeling that drive into hydroplane boat racing. He traveled across the country to compete in regional and national races, often earning top-three finishes. Even after a serious accident, he stayed dedicated to the sport for many years. He didn't just race hydroplanes—he built them too, crafting his own boat, Sundance S-9, as well as boats for friends and fellow racers.

After his racing days, Michael’s love for building never faded. He enjoyed constructing intricate models, slot cars, and furniture. His creativity and craftsmanship were a constant source of joy throughout his life. As mobility challenges increased, he still found ways to keep creating—recently rebuilding some of his favorite childhood models.

Michael cherished time spent outdoors with loved ones, especially summers at Flathead Lake. He loved taking family and friends tubing, kneeboarding, and skiing behind his boat. He also held fond memories of vacations to Seaside and Orcas Island, as well as camping trips in Glacier National Park.

He is survived by his loving children and grandchildren, his lifelong friends Roy and Jim, and his beloved little dog Jett.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
